“Know By Heart” by Julie Hill and Ryan Young

Julie Hill works mainly in pen and ink.  She likes drawing details and romance, which often translates as girls, birds and the occasional bunch of flowers. She lives in Cincinnati, Ohio, works as an interactive designer, and spends a lot of her free time torn between her conflicting hobbies of dancing and knitting.  She is an active member in the creative collective Projectmill, and her artwork has shown in Los Angeles, London, Cleveland, Cincinnati and Ann Arbor.

Ryan P. Young is originally from the exotic land of Cincinnati Ohio. He remains in the mid west walking the sidewalks of Chicagoland while studying at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago where he is attempting to merge contemporary design in furniture with traditional methods and materials.  When taking a break from his thesis you can find him dabbling in creating rock posters, t-shirt designs, album art or feeding his craving for eclectic music anyway that presents itself.

Featuring limited edition tea-dyed Julie Hill & Ryan Young  X The ShadowPlastic Label tees.

VIDEO: TreeWax HD by klip collective

Posted by blogmaster X of The ShadowPlastic Label on Dec 17 2008 | Eyephones (VIDEO)

My friends have way too much time on their hands. My Philly heads klip collective just did this pro-holiday video in their spare time. The amazing thing about this is that it’s all done with one projector on a bunch of gift boxes and a tree. If you want to find out how they did it, you might have to steal your soul to a geeky devil. He might try to throw in his collection of Cabbage Patch Kids and a fire lakefront timeshare but don’t give in to him. That’s just too evil.

The song is Walter Murphy & The Big Apple Band - A Fifth of Beethoven (Soulwax Remix). The Santa is probably drunk.

P.S. Congrats to Ric and Michelle on their new baby girl. Merry Christmas indeed.

KageGFX declared Artist of the Day on BrooklynArtProject.com

Posted by KAGE on Dec 11 2008 | General, SPOTTED! (Press)

“I would like to thank God, whom without Him none of this would have been possible, my mother, whom without her love and support I could have never made it this far (SOB!) and most importantly you, the fans, for believing in me.”

That’s my canned acceptance speech.

I woke up this morning and went about my normal routine of email checking, blog reading and social networking and I came upon this:

Yay, that’s me! Seems like there is more to old KageGFX than meets the eye.
I highly recommend checking out, if not joining Brooklyn Art Project, even if you don’t live in Brooklyn. It’s a great community of artists in the world’s best borough (don’t hate me Queens) and a superb source of news and resources for creatives and appreciators alike.

Props to Anthony Cospito, BAP Co-Founder.

- Secret Key to the Heart Sutra by Kukai, Founder of Japanese Shingon Buddhism

Meet shapeshifter LOTUSHEART and become part of her journey to discover the Hidden Flower guarded carefully by the Challenger. On her magical journey, she encounters new, as well as old friends such as HARAKITI, who help her to visualize the glowing blossom of the Flower.

“This show is the fruit of numerous all-night-till-the-sun-rise painting sessions of the last two months, many of them spent with fellow artists who labored with me, kept me inspired and helped me to sharpen my vision. Taking the Japanese samurai and ninja tradition as a visual reference, I have tried to illustrate a number of spiritual concepts I have been meditating on for years and place them in a dreamlike setting of love and chivalry. I also wanted to make this solo show into an opportunity to honor my friends -my Brooklyn fam- by inviting them to be part of this fantasy heartland of lovers and secret monk-warriors that we created as we were preparing for the show.” Lichiban

AUDIO: Brooklyn (Go Hard) - Jay-Z feat. Santogold

Posted by KAGE on Dec 02 2008 | HeadPhones (AUDIO)

Mr. Carter, what are you doing to me. First you say you are going to retire, then you come back with a lackluster album. Then you come back with one of the best mixtapes/albums for a mediocre movie (yeah, I said it: American Gangster was just so-so) then you keep dropping singles that just kill one after the other. What the hell are you teasing me for? Do you want me to beg?

Fine, please, make another album. I need you. The world needs you.
P.S. Tell your wife to chill, she’s kinda ODing on this Sasha Fierce thing.

. . . Or Go Home.

AUDIO: Girltalk & The Cool Kids Remixed. . . Double Dose of DOPE.

Posted by KAGE on Nov 18 2008 | HeadPhones (AUDIO)

It’s been a minute (well, a bit more than a week) since the last update and I apologize. We’re getting ready to drop the new season of stuff soon and we’ve been slaving in front of computer monitors and screen printing tables making samples and tweaking stuff. I did find some distraction on Saturday however when a bunch of heads and I went to see GIRLTALK at Terminal 5 this Saturday past (November 15th) and crunked out with my junk out. If you are not familiar with the work of Mr. Greg Gillis fret not, I’ve included a brief sample form his most recent album Feed The Animals below:

Girltalk - Give Me A Beat

His music is best described as a taking a buttload of songs from now and then, compacting them in a garbage truck and then throwing a rave inside said garbage truck with a leprechaun DJ making it rain gold coins. Yes, it’s that good. His show was decent. There were a bit too many meatnecks and “cool kids” there for my taste but all in all it was a good show.

Speaking of cool kids, I was fishing around and stumbled upon this beauty:

Logarhytmik - The Bank Sale (The Cool Kids Mixtape)

Seems like somebody went and took sugar and made it even sweeter. I dare say that this remixtape is BETTER than the original. After the first listen my heart smiled the same way it did when I heard The Grey Album; all warm and fuzzy like. I highly recommend you make this download and crank it up to 11 on the iPod because as alphapack says, “This shit BANGS!”

I love you more than Jesus.

PICS: YES WE DID! Election Night Extravaganza

Posted by KAGE on Nov 05 2008 | Randomnicity

Last night alphapack and I went out to Hugs (my new favorite place) in Williamsburg BK to watch history happen. This post would have been put up earlier but instead of listening to Minister Farrakhan we stayed out and got wasted.
Brooklyn blew the fukk up last night as countless heads, from hipsters to hoodrats, took to the streets in celebration of Obama/Biden taking The White House. It is truly a great day in America.

Peep pics from the celebration HERE.
