FOOX-U is one of those rare people you meet that is super genuine and has butt-loads of coolness although he may be a bit off. He is like that crazy uncle that shows up at galleries that tells all the funny stories, drinks a little too much and then slides you a $20 because your his favorite niece or nephew.

In other words, FOOX-U is pretty awesome.

Like your uncle, he can pretty much do anything better than your dad. He paints, he makes t-shirts, and he creates vinyl figures. His latest line appropriately called ORGAN DONORS. With names like “Pickled Liver,” “Nuclear Thinker” and “Blunted”, you hearken back to the days of getting your first pack of Garbage Pail Kids, sitting on your uncle’s lap and showing him as he pretended to be interested and sipped gin behind your back.

FOOX-U Home.

Park Chan-Wook

Park Chan-Wook (bonus points if you can pronounce it correctly) is the famed director of such lovely family films like Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance, Sympathy for Lady Vengeance and the homage to family values Oldboy. July 31st he gives us statesiders his latest film Thirst.

Thirst is an interesting take on vampire mythology where a priest becomes a vampire after a medical experiment goes awry. He must struggle with his new vampire instincts, powers and insatiable desires. When he has an affair with a childhood friend’s wife that is sick of her own mundane existence, the struggle become even more hopeless as the darkness begins to consume him even more.

Whether you’re a fan of Park Chan-Wook or vampires, this will be another pleaser from the master of vengeance. Click below to see the redband trailer (with extra naughty bits) and read more about vampirism in Korea.

Rob Corradetti Is On Some RAD ROX

Rob and I went to school together at The University of Delaware. We ran in the same circles and drank a lot of beer at the Newark’s only safe haven for art nerds, pseudo intellectuals and drugdealers known then as “The Cleaners”. It was our own Beat Movement of the late 90s.
I remember Rob used to make these wild paintings and comics called “The Adventures of Rad Rox” which, to this day, I still don’t fully get when I’m sober. Regardless, one thing was always prevalent: “That quiet skinny dude over there has some crazy skills.”

Check out Rob’s current body of work at RadRox.com and also at GR2, Giant Robot Magazine’s huge group show going on until August 5th if you’re in West L.A.

Cyndi Lauper & Lil Kim Perform Time After Time & Lighters Up [LIVE] (Link Updated)

OK, so when I read the description, I kinda thought I was bugging out. Cyndi Lauper and Lil Kim? Yeah right! That’s like the most ridiculous collaboration ever. That’s like Billy Graham and Al Sharpton collabing on a sermon. I must be drunk or something.

Alas, even though I have imbibed a bit tonight, it’s real. Cyndi Lauper and Lil Kim. . . TOGETHER. Why? Mandela’s birthday (OK, makes a little more sense) to make a live mashup of Time after Time and Lighters Up. I must say, it’s kinda fresh. Cyndi can lay it down for BK (even though she, like me, is a Queens native).

KRS-ONE & Buckshot – Robot

Hip Hop music is funny. It’s like when someone decides to make a statement, the collective unconscious decides to amplify that statement by making there own synchronous statement on the original statement. The result is one big ideology that echoes through like minded individuals. This could be mistaken as a “trend”, but it’s far from trendy.

Enter KRS-ONE & Buckshot – Robot. The Blastmaster and The BDI Thug ignite this track claiming it to be the official death of Autotune. Different from Jay-Z’s D.O.A. however, they offer a bit of a history lesson on Autotune and it’s impact on hip hop music. Peep the video directed by Todd Angkasuwan (he even has Buckshot doing a little dance on it. . . legendary!). I’ll def be looking for their album when it drops September 15th.

Shephard Fairey Pleads Guilty in Boston

Seems like the wonderful city of Boston has nothing better to do with their resources than to charge Shephard Fairey (OBEY) with three misdemeanors: one charge of defacing property and two charges of wanton destruction of property for a September 2000 incident where he placed a poster on the back of an electrical box and earlier this year planting a sticker on the back of a sign and a poster on the side of a condo. Eleven other charges were dropped. This on the heels of his controversial battle with The Associated Press.

The 39-year-old Los Angeles street artist, who became famous for plastering his posters and stickers throughout cities, must pay $2,000 to a graffiti removal organization and cannot possess tagging materials — such as stickers or paste — in Boston except for authorized art installations. He also must tell officials when he plans to visit Suffolk County, where Boston is located.

And here I thought NYC vandal squad and laws were ridiculous. But could this mean an end to Fairey’s taking his art to the street?

“I think that people should be responsible about sharing their art, and that’s not a transition or an evolution of my philosophy,” Fairey said outside court. “Fortunately, I’m at a place in my career where I can get sanctioned spaces, so it’s not an issue that I’ll ever have to worry about again.”

We’ll have to wait and see the impact, if any, this will have on the future of art on the street.

Jennifer’s Body Red Band Trailer – Trailer Addict

For those of you not watching the Michael Jackson Memorial, here is the red band trailer for the new Megan Fox horror movie Jennifer’s Body. So far it looks like Diablo Cody did a pretty decent job mixing snark and gore. We’ll just have to wait and see if it’s worth shelling out the $12 at the theater or the $19.99 at the Best Buy.

Now back to the memorial.
