AUDIO: Human Highway – “The Sound”

Posted by KAGE on Mar 04 2009 | Music

If you know me, you know that I am not a fan of happy feel good music. I like my music loud, dark and filled with hate usually. So imagine my surprise when I was on the interweb listening to random band sites and blogs that people send me and I find this catchy upbeat sing-along song. It’s so upbeat (without inducing cavities) that I started to dance around my studio like a god damned hippie and ventured a smile. Painful, yes, but after a while I realized that smiling isn’t bad. The hook is the real deal sealer: “. . . Got nothin’ left but it ain’t bringing me down, I’m just gonna follow the sound.” Feels like cereal on a Saturday morning watching The Gummi Bears.
Apparently this song has been floating around for a while, but nobody told me. I probably wouldn’t have listened anyway. I would have just ignored you. But now that I’ve had a dose of happy, you have 30 seconds.

Human Highway – “The Sound”

If you’re really feeling froggish, you can watch the video for this song after the leap.

AUDIO: Lily Allen – “Fuck You”

Posted by KAGE on Feb 06 2009 | Music

Lily Allen, The UK’s Miss Congeniality, is at top form in this off-pop song about flipping the bird to a dumb ass, whatever the reason for their dumbassedness. The message is hard even though the melody and beat is cotton soft and cheery. But that’s why we love Lily Allen right? She’s hard, soft and cheery.

VIDEO: “9″ Movie Trailer

Posted by KAGE on Feb 05 2009 | Music

This has got to be the coolest looking project ever. From producers Timur Bekmambetov (director of Wanted) and  Tim Burton (really? It’s Tim effing Burton) and directed by Shane Acker comes a modern day fairy tail about human stupidity, an apocalypse,  and the meek inheriting the Earth.

The story is simple enough: “9 takes place in a world parallel to our own, in which the very legacy of humanity is threatened. A group of sapient rag dolls, living a post-apocalyptic existence find one of their own, 9 (Elijah Wood), who displays leadership qualities that may help them to survive.” (IMDb). But the execution is AMAZING! This is one of the most beautiful animations I have seen since Final Fantasy: Advent Children. And if that doesn’t sell you, I have one name that will make you stomp your grandmother to go and see it: Crispen Glover.

VIDEO: TreeWax HD by klip collective

Posted by The ShadowPlastic Label on Dec 17 2008 | Music

My friends have way too much time on their hands. My Philly heads klip collective just did this pro-holiday video in their spare time. The amazing thing about this is that it’s all done with one projector on a bunch of gift boxes and a tree. If you want to find out how they did it, you might have to steal your soul to a geeky devil. He might try to throw in his collection of Cabbage Patch Kids and a fire lakefront timeshare but don’t give in to him. That’s just too evil.

The song is Walter Murphy & The Big Apple Band – A Fifth of Beethoven (Soulwax Remix). The Santa is probably drunk.

P.S. Congrats to Ric and Michelle on their new baby girl. Merry Christmas indeed.

AUDIO: Brooklyn (Go Hard) – Jay-Z feat. Santogold

Posted by KAGE on Dec 02 2008 | Music

Mr. Carter, what are you doing to me. First you say you are going to retire, then you come back with a lackluster album. Then you come back with one of the best mixtapes/albums for a mediocre movie (yeah, I said it: American Gangster was just so-so) then you keep dropping singles that just kill one after the other. What the hell are you teasing me for? Do you want me to beg?

Fine, please, make another album. I need you. The world needs you.
P.S. Tell your wife to chill, she’s kinda ODing on this Sasha Fierce thing.

. . . Or Go Home.

AUDIO: Girltalk & The Cool Kids Remixed. . . Double Dose of DOPE.

Posted by KAGE on Nov 18 2008 | Music

It’s been a minute (well, a bit more than a week) since the last update and I apologize. We’re getting ready to drop the new season of stuff soon and we’ve been slaving in front of computer monitors and screen printing tables making samples and tweaking stuff. I did find some distraction on Saturday however when a bunch of heads and I went to see GIRLTALK at Terminal 5 this Saturday past (November 15th) and crunked out with my junk out. If you are not familiar with the work of Mr. Greg Gillis fret not, I’ve included a brief sample form his most recent album Feed The Animals below:

Girltalk – Give Me A Beat

His music is best described as a taking a buttload of songs from now and then, compacting them in a garbage truck and then throwing a rave inside said garbage truck with a leprechaun DJ making it rain gold coins. Yes, it’s that good. His show was decent. There were a bit too many meatnecks and “cool kids” there for my taste but all in all it was a good show.

Speaking of cool kids, I was fishing around and stumbled upon this beauty:

Logarhytmik – The Bank Sale (The Cool Kids Mixtape)

Seems like somebody went and took sugar and made it even sweeter. I dare say that this remixtape is BETTER than the original. After the first listen my heart smiled the same way it did when I heard The Grey Album; all warm and fuzzy like. I highly recommend you make this download and crank it up to 11 on the iPod because as alphapack says, “This shit BANGS!”

I love you more than Jesus.

AUDIO: The Knux – Life In a Cage (Electric)

Posted by KAGE on Oct 31 2008 | Music

The Knux just might be my favorite new hip hop group out now. They’re young, they’re fun and they have something to say, which is rare considering I can’t understand a gosh darn thing that comes out of Soldier Boy’s mouth. His whole thing is “Tell ‘Em” but what the hell is he tellin’ em? “You to can make it big if you rhyme like you’ve been huffing paint thinner over some beats made on My First Sony.

Anyway, check out The Knux if you haven’t because there is a reckoning coming and change indefinitely will come.

Let me know in 3 days.

AUDIO: Kanye West vs. JUSTICE – Let There Be Love (rmx)

Posted by KAGE on Oct 30 2008 | Music

Everybody knows I’m not a fan of that “Love Lock Down” track by Kanye. The beat is dope but I’m over the vocoder. You remix (“mash” really) with JUSTICE and I like it a little more. But only because it’s JUSTICE.

I’m not loving you like I wanted to.

AUDIO: Crash Overdrive – Hips, Lips and Microchips

Posted by KAGE on Oct 30 2008 | Music

If you like that hard, sexy, crunchy, funky electro dance music then boy/girl do I got a doozy for you. Crash Overdrive. . . Ever heard of them? No, well you have now you have. This sounds like they put on a pair of shit-kickers and angel armor and straight stomped out a dumptruck in a mosh pit.

YES, it is that awesome.

Flipping more than just scripts. . .

AUDIO: Klaxons – Gravity’s Rainbow (Guns ‘N’ Bombs Rmx.)

Posted by KAGE on Oct 01 2008 | Music

I heart the Klaxons. They had me from a while back with their rendition of Blackstreet’s No Diggity. I heart their new song Gravity’s Rainbow, especially this remix version by Guns ‘N’ Bombs. Fu©k it, I love the name Guns ‘N’ Bombs: the way it just rolls off the tongue. Try it, you’ll like it.

This is the perfect song to make out with a girl to; if your girl is a robot. A hot ass robot. . . with angel wings.

Roborotica.
